The final weeks of a tenancy set the tone for the bond refund. Giving proper notice, returning the property to the right condition and following the paperwork can make moving out much less stressful.
Give proper notice
Check the required notice period in your lease and state rules, and give it in writing. Confirm the final inspection date and whether the landlord or agent needs access for showings before the end date.
Clean to the condition report
Return the property in the condition recorded at move-in, allowing for reasonable wear and tear. Use the condition report and photos as your checklist, and arrange the same professional cleaning standard if that is required by the agreement.
Follow the bond process
Attend the final inspection, raise any disputed items in writing and submit the bond claim jointly if both parties agree. If there is a disagreement, the tenancy authority holds the bond until the matter is resolved, so keep your documentation.
